'Pensions' under New Labour.
New Labour claim that they have made Pensioners 'Better Off'.

The truth is very different ..............

Labour, despite their claims and spin, have hit Pensioners very hard.

Labour are trying to convince us that the small increases in pensions and the means-tested benefits have really made life better for pensioners. Sounds great doesn't it ! But the facts are:

  • The huge increases in Council Tax as a result of New Labour policies take away one third of a pensioner's disposable income; and
  • the 66 Labour stealth taxes take pensioners' money as much as anyone else's
  • New Labour have taken back more in the way of tax from pensioners than the meagre increases they have given them.
On Pensions, as with most other things, New Labour are a party of smoke and mirrors and one thing you can be sure of is that 'What you see on offer' is not going to be 'What you get'!

Pensions Crisis - Caused by Brown and New Labour

Pension Funds have been robbed of more than £60 Billion since 1997 by Gordon Brown. This has led to the collapse of many company pension schemes and others, including Local Authority Pension schemes have had billions knocked off their value. Hard earned and long saved for pensions have been raided and squandered by New Labour

To put the size of Labour pension raids in perspective, someone starting a new pension scheme in their mid 20's will now have to pay in nearly twice as much each year to achieve the same pension on retirement as before. Gordon Brown hoped that the crisis his new stealth tax would cause was far enough away in the future, but this chicken has roosted early.

Graduates Pensions hit by Tuition Fees
Graduates are leaving university with significant debts from Student Loans, not only is this preventing them from buying homes but they are unable to start pension plans because of their loan repayments. This is another Labour policy which is storing up more trouble for the future.
